When I first came out of high school I had no idea what I really wanted to do. I was told about a job opening for an orthotic technician at Shriners hospital. I had no idea what that was but I applied for the job anyway. After a few weeks I knew that this was a career I would love.
I spent many years as an orthotic technician and eventually started working for Boston O&P where I became the lead technician for lower limb products. I knew that each device I made really made a difference in the patient’s life. I wanted to be more involved in the patient care side of the field so I continued my education and became a Certified Orthotic Assistant and a Certified Orthotic-fitter. I believe having the knowledge and understanding of how the braces are made helps me to choose the optimal brace for each patient’s specific needs. Working as a practitioner for Boston O&P has allowed me to see first-hand the impact I have on a patient.
