Philosophy

As a practitioner I like to explain what I am evaluating and fitting to my patients and explain biomechanics and function of devices. I can understand that wearing devices may be difficult to accept so explaining the function is of each portion of the device, whether orthotic or prosthetic, may help acceptance of wearing a device. Additionally, I believe in bracing only what is necessary. I encourage patients to use as much of their own musculature as they are able to, and to build or rehabilitate the muscles and joints they can. I think as patients grow and mature, developing one’s own strength where available will help promote longevity of functional movement. For prosthetics, my goal as a practitioner is to make patients a device they feel good and confident about, while ensuring it is properly designed to meet their individualized goals.

Bio

I found the field of orthotics and prosthetics through shadowing and working in physical therapy. Through that experience, I saw a patient with a Van Ness procedure. After doing some research I found the post-op care was preparing him to wear a prosthesis. I sought out a prosthetic clinic to see what that entailed. I immediately fell in love with the field. I enjoy how the field of O&P incorporates patient evaluation and biomechanics, coupled with creative design and hands on skills to make something unique for each person.
