I feel that it is the role of the orthotist to ensure kids can focus on their only job: being kids. Orthotic treatment should enable a child to continue to progress through developmental milestones and build independence. It is my goal as an orthotist to be able to provide devices that prevent further progression of deformities and accommodate existing ones without inhibiting the child’s normal activities. With patient and parent education, we can ensure that the family knows how the orthosis functions to help the child in reaching their goals. It is my priority to make sure that orthotic intervention assists the child in getting back to exploring, playing, and growing!
I grew up interested in creative problem solving and the medical field, which lead me to pursue biomedical engineering in college. During my time at BU, I discovered the field of O&P and loved how it combined much of my design and engineering skills with direct patient care. As a graduate student, I completed a summer internship with Boston Orthotics and Prosthetics at Boston Children’s Hospital and instantly fell in love with pediatric care. Children are extremely resilient, and there is no greater feeling than being able to help a child gain mobility and independence. I am so excited to be a part of a team of clinicians whose primary goal is helping kids. Originally from Connecticut, I now live in northern New Jersey with my fiancé and my rescue bulldog, Frank.
