I believe the two keys to success in prosthetics and orthotics are education and teamwork. I strive to listen to the concerns of patients and their families, while simultaneously teaching patients and families the "in's and out's" and the "what's and why's" of their device. This ensures that we're all on the same page during the course of treatment and helps create realistic expectations. I greatly value the interconnected teamwork of the clinician, patient, family, physician and therapist. By emphasizing this type of collaboration among the members of the care team, we create the potential to achieve the best outcome for every patient.
I discovered the O&P field during a brief stint in medical school. I was so inspired and enamored by the work being done that it changed the direction of my profession. The combination of direct patient care and hands on fabrication better suited my career interests and artistic talents.
I am a huge fan of all things Star Wars and one of my favorite hobbies is collecting fossilized shark teeth.
